Hello, my name is Clairmont Ruff, but most people call me Monty. I am currently a senior at Holy Cross College in Notre Dame, Indiana. I will be graduating this May with a major in Business and minors in Spanish and Sports Management. I hope to take the knowledge I have gained through my studies at Holy Cross and develop them at the graduate level. I am planning to attend graduate school upon graduation this May and look to receive Masters Degrees in finance and something in the field of global economics. Amongst the schools I am currently considering are the University of Chicago, University of Notre Dame, DePaul University, and Loyola University Chicago.

My family's origins are in Chicago, Illinois. I had the pleasure of growing up in sunny Orange County, California. Even though I grew up in Orange County, my heart always felt at home in Chicago, which helped shape me into the individual that I am today. I have always strived to return to the Midwest and Chicago in particular. I had the honor and privilege to attend Mater Dei High School, a prestigious Catholic High School located in Santa Ana, California. There I developed in the academic, athletic, and business fields. When choosing a college destination, being close to Chicago was key to my decision. Adam DeBeck, an admissions officer at Holy Cross, invited me to come out and see the College.

Holy Cross blew me away. They showed that they wanted me to be a part of the College and made me feel at home. They enticed me to continue my hockey career at the collegiate level. They arranged meetings with the athletic director and hockey coaches. They showed me all the opportunities presented to me with a Holy Cross education and how it would benefit me in my future endeavors. It became clear to me that I would not only be able to develop my academic knowledge, but also start to prepare for the business world through various classes and internship opportunities. Unlike other schools, where they pitched why their school was so great, Holy Cross pitched why the school was so great for me. This made my decision to attend Holy Cross College easy and ultimately I became a member of the Saints Family.

This eFolio will provide insights into my collegiate tenure. It will show how I have developed as an individual and all of the opportunities I was able to participate in. It will illustrate my journey from a boy leaving my parents in the hope of continuing to play hockey, to returning to Chicago as a bright young man ready to take on the world. I have learned that life presents many challenges and what defines an individual is how they embrace those challenges. Everyone will face adversity. How they deal with those adversities is what defines them. The phrase that will always be etched in my heart and the basis behind my passion is: "Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up." I would like to show you how this phrase has impacted my life and invite you to my Capstone which will occur on Tuesday, November 19 at 4 PM (EST) at Holy Cross College.
